about

London-via-Manchester three-piece, The Early Mornings release their new single ‘It’s Not What You Want’ - the first release on new label home Practise Music. Documenting times where nothing seems to go to plan, but making do anyway, vocalist and guitarist Annie Leader delivers a wry, lyrical antidote to the mundane over a driven and joyous track. ‘It’s Not What You Want’ is a song to blow the cobwebs off any humdrum day.

Following on from the release of 2021, debut EP Unnecessary Creation, ‘It’s Not What You Want’ shows The Early Mornings continue to succeed in delivering infectious, minimal post-punk, rounded off with a degree of honesty, humor and a charismatic charm not typically found within the genre.

lyrics

Find love in a telephone box
Leave some cat food for the fox
Squirrel’s eaten all the bird seed
It’s not what you want
It’s what you need

And I punctuate my days

Left to freeze the beers gone flat
Barbed wire clothes line cut my hat
I don’t write poems I just write lines
It’s not what you want
But it works just fine

And I punctuate my days

Throwing tea bags in the plant pot
Caution contents may be not
Vomit in the mixing bowl
It’s not what you want
It’s the way it goes

And I punctuate my days

Hanging tears nailed to eyeballs
Can’t make holes in the drywalls
Razor blade to the cellophane
It’s not what you want
And I can’t explain

And I punctuate my days
And I punctuate my days

And all the words mean nothing
Until you’re all done speaking

I can’t help it
I want the things that mean nothing
Until you try to sleep
Until your dreams give you something
The world turns when no one’s watching
And the future’s too far away
The future’s too far and now is too late
The future’s too far away

And I punctuate my days
And I punctuate my days
And I punctuate my days
